NAV Celebrated A Dual Occasion: NAV Day and Australia Day


The Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV) celebrated a dual occasion on Sunday, observing NAV Day and Australia Day in conjunction with the ongoing 19th Nav Cup cricket tournament. The festivities unfolded at J C Doneth Reserve, featuring the active participation of cricketers and distinguished community members.

The event commenced with renditions of the national anthems of Nepal and Australia, followed by speeches delivered by prominent figures. Among the attendees were NAV president Prem Raj Upreti, NRNA Victoria vice president Mahadev Dhanuk, senior Nepalese community leader Somprasad Gurung, and NAV advisors Lal Prasad Kandel and Roshan Dahal. The gathering also included community leaders such as NNCI Vice President Bishwa Khanal, NNCI Secretary Nirdosh Giri, Shailesh Ghimire, President of Melbourne Nepal, Rajesh Kandel of Everest Finance, and Dillion Neupane of Good Will Finance.

The celebration of NAV Day involved the cutting of a cake, with the presence of Surendra Sedai, the former president. Notable attendees included current officers and members of the NAV Executive Committee, as well as players and leaders from various cricket clubs and community organizations.

During the NAV Cup, Treasurer Yakindra Timilsina expressed gratitude, extending thanks for the support received. The program was hosted by NAV Secretary Alok Paudel. President Upreti conveyed appreciation for the continuous support since the establishment of NAV, emphasizing the organization’s dedication to preserving and promoting community arts, culture, and language.

President Upreti acknowledged the challenges faced in the evolving times and emphasized NAV’s commitment to working for the community’s benefit. He extended gratitude to the Victorian State Government, the Federal Government, and Nepalese business for their unwavering support of NAV’s initiatives.

Established in 1997, NAV has been dedicated to introducing Nepal and its people to the Victorian community while striving to develop and expand Nepalese art, culture, and language. The 19th edition of the Nav Cup, an annual cricket tournament, is currently underway as part of NAV’s ongoing efforts to engage the community and celebrate its rich cultural heritage. Thje 19th NAV Cup will conclude on 10th of March 2024 with a grand finale.
