Press Release 9 July 2018: NAV CELEBRATES NEPALESE COMMUNITY SPIRIT IN VICTORIA

Nepalese AssociationofVictoria(NAV)organisedNERA(NAVExcellenceRecognitions&Award)on Sunday, 08 July 2018 at Collingwood Town Hall.

Dignitaries at the program included Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Hon Mr. Chandra Yonzon, Nepal’s Special Envoy for National Reconstruction Fund & Immediate Past President of NRNA ICC, Dr Shesh Ghale (h.c), Past VMC Chairperson; Mr Chin Tan, VMC Commissioner, Dr Sundram Sivamalai, ​Member for the Northern Metro Region in the Victorian Parliament, Dr Samantha Ratnam MP, ​leaders of community organisations, representatives from local government bodies and general public.

NAV President Dr Anupam Pokharel welcomed all guests present at the program. He said “Nav works on language and culture, capacity building, youths and children activity, and sports. Hence we feel privileged to organize award program on similar categories, and believe that such awards will help our community to be more confident.”

Speaking at the occasion Hon Chandra Yonzon,ConsulGeneralofNepaltoVictoria,emphasisedthe need of organisation such as NAV to provide support to the Nepalese community and to advocate on their behalf. He stressed that the Nepalese community should now aim at representing in local government bodies and organisations.

Addressing the program, multicultural leaders congratulated NAVandtheNepalesecommunityfor actively participating in the multiculturalismofVictoriaandrecognisingtheachievementsmadeby the members of Nepalese community and friends ofNepalesecommunity.Theyalso congratulated NAV for highlighting the achievements of the members of the Nepalese community and also congratulated all the nominees of the awards.

NAV Excellence Recognitions & Award was presented in six categories: Language, Art & Culture; Professional or Academic Achievement; Initiation, Leadership or Advocacy; NAV Commendable Service to Nepalese Community; Young Achiever Award and Sports Award.

During the program Mr Niraj Karanjeet, Commissioner of NAV Election Commission 2018, conducted the oath ceremony to swear in the new President Mr Tara Gaire and the new executive committee.

The guests were entertained by Cultural Performances including dances by NAV Bal Chautari kids.
